Deaf persons live in abject poverty due lack of access to formal and informal employment arising out of lack of adequate education, training and capital coupled with the historical negative attitudes by society. Those involved in some work earn pea nuts and have no job security. Our livelihoods programme supports Deaf persons (especially the young) to acquire marketable
business and vocational skills, and start up to start their own businesses and invest in their existing businesses. We empower Deaf persons with vocational and business skills to engage in income generating activities (IGAs) to be able to earn a living. This way they are in position to lead independent lives, since they in position to decide on their own and contribute to decisions in the communities where they live.
